Intensive Behavioral Interventions
What is the Interagency Student Empowerment Team?
A district-level teaming structure that meets to identify and attempts to address barriers that are preventing a student from achieving their greatest potential
Consists of representatives from Fresno Unified School District and community partnerships with expertise in the following areas: behavior, social-emotional learning, trauma, mental health, physical health, speech and language, alternative education, foster and homeless youth, special education, and restorative practices.
Who does ISET Support?
ISET supports students in PS to 8th grade who continue to display intensive needs, despite all site-based interventions and support being exhausted.
The team assists school sites in identifying and/or providing the appropriate interventions, strategies, and support for the referred student based on their individual needs.
In addition, the team attempts to support the student's family in eliminating any barriers that may be contributing to the student's lack of academic achievement.
What are the potential outcomes of the ISET meeting?
Interventions and support recommended by ISET may include, but are not limited to:
-
Assigning a Behavior Intervention Specialist: BIS support pre-identified students from PS to 6th grade, using Applied Behavior Analysis to build the capacity of students, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders. Their goal is to decrease intensive behaviors that interfere with academic success. This support is temporary and not to exceed 12 weeks.
-
Connection to outside resources and/or community partners
-
Voluntary placement at the Alternative Education site (must meet criteria)
-
Recommendations for the IEP team.
